Frequently asked questions
- How many sets per set of batteries?
With the standard machine, 2 fully charged 9 amp/hr batteries should give you 23 - 25 minutes run time before the batteries need re-charging.
With the 30lb long machine, 3 fully charged 9 amp/hr batteries, the run time is 35 minutes before the batteries need re-charging.
With the 46lb machine, 3 fully charged 9 amp/hr batteries, the run time is 28 minutes before the batteries need re-charging.
We recommend you only use high quality batteries that are sold by Kentiki in your kontiki. Using other manufacturers brands of batteries will nullify your warranty.
- How long do you set the line for?
In our experience 45 minute sets seem to produce the best results. If you leave the longline set any longer, the fish tend to die and any undersize fish have no chance when returned to the sea. Also, wounded fish attract predators i.e.sharks and barracudas which could chomp your longline while attacking a helpless fish.
- How do you steer the KENTIKI?
Our kontikis have a row of holes on a delta at the rear of the machine. By attaching your line to a hole on the left-hand side of the delta the machine will pull to the left. By attaching your line to a hole on the right hand side of the delta, the machine will pull to the right.
- DOES THE KENTIKI HAVE A TIMER?
Each Kentiki has a 0 - 30 minute mechanical timer. Provided you get no water or sand in your machine, these generally give litte trouble. Good housekeeping will prevent these problems.
- WHAT IS THE MAXIMUM NUMBER OF HOOKS ALLOWED?
Current regulations permit only 25 hooks on a long line.
